Note: This is the first of a series in which I categorize a public figure as either a “Preservationist” or “Not a Preservationist.”
Actor David Schwimmer (best known for playing loveable anthropologist Ross on Friends) purchased an 1852 townhouse in Manhattan’s East Village in 2010 for $4.1 million. Just months after receiving notice from the Landmarks Preservation Commission about their intent to landmark the building, Schwimmer demolished it in September 2011. He plans to replace the 7,750 square foot, five-story townhouse with a 9,000 square foot, six-story mansion. Neighbors are not happy. Check out the before pictures of 331 E. 6th Street.
