Gloria Estefan: Preservationist

Note: This is part of a series in which I categorize a public figure as either a “Preservationist” or “Not a Preservationist.”

Singer Gloria Estefan was recently interviewed by Preservation magazine about her passion for preservation and her role as a board member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She recounts the love she and her husband, Emilio, share for historic buildings…so much so that they started purchasing and restoring Miami Beach properties, including Art Deco jewels. Their latest effort is to save the Miami Marine Stadium, a 1963 landmark designed by Cuban-born architect, Hilario Candela, known for its fold-plate roof.
